Luis Garcia

In 2008, Luis Garcia’s Florida State House seat was coveted by the Republican Party and his rival in the state Senate was looking to unseat the Democratic incumbent.

Garcia, however, was not ready to end his service to the 107th District in South Florida.

In a decisive 56% to 44% vote in favor of Garcia, the Democratic Party was able to fight off the attempted Republican takeover.

This was no small victory, as Garcia is the first Democrat to be re-elected in that district since 1990.
