| Lincoln Davis |
Despite a tremendously successful freshman term in Congress, Lincoln Davis’ benchmark poll showed that 51% of voters felt things were on the wrong track. 73% did not know where he stood on the issues of most importance to them. And George Bush was leading John Kerry by 20 points in the district. Simply put, Congressman Lincoln Davis’ reelection campaign was not a done deal. Our television ads highlighted Congressman Davis’ strong values, and received the most praise from rank and file voters that we can remember from one commercial. Standing on a porch, Lincoln said, “In my family, the important issues hit close to home. My brother lost his job and pension when a factory moved overseas. That’s why I’m fighting to protect Tennessee jobs. I recently lost my father to cancer. That’s why I’m working to provide in-home health care for seniors…these issues aren’t political to me, they are personal.” Despite a 16-point Bush win in the 4th District, Davis won 55% - 44% -- a bigger margin than he won with against the same opponent in 2002. |
